Waterfront properties require extra due diligence. All waterfronts are unique and have their own considerations to take into account. When considering purchasing a home on Lake Placid Lake, the first thing to consider is whether you want a home that is road accessible or only accessible by boat.

One of the advantages to purchasing a boat-only access camp is the privacy. The properties are remote, but not isolated, as there is a nice community amongst the families on the islands (Moose and Buck Island) and the West Shore. As these families tend to settle in for months at a time, they are more on ‘vacation mode’, enjoying being removed from every day amenities and settling into camp. If you need an egg or a cup of sugar, chances are you’re going to get it from a neighbor rather than go into town.

There is plenty of activities to enjoy the lake. You can go via boat to Lake Placid Lodge or the Moose Lodge at Whiteface Club & Resort for dinner. Another fun activity is to take your boat to Whiteface Landing and hike up the back side of Whiteface Mountain. There is a lean-to at the north end of Moose Island, a great place to take your grandkids for an afternoon and picnic, or camp out there overnight. For those seeking an adrenaline rush, you can jump off the infamous Pulpit Rock, or test your turns on the waterski course. Another activity that Lake Placid Lake is known for is its fishing. A challenged that is faced by boat-access only home owners is that you need to be more patient with the weather. As summer turns to fall, colder nights leave fog on the lake making it visibility a difficulty.

One of the benefits to purchasing a home or land on Lake Placid Lake is the Shore Owners Association (SOA), the SOA is an organization committed to preserving the quality of lake shores and lake water, ensuring the safety of the lake surface for transportation and pleasure, and enhancing the general quality of life on the lake. Watershed and the quality of water is so important, one thing that I am particularly grateful.
